In 2011 I broke my left femur due to a freak accident. As I healed from surgery,I began to go to physiotherapy to work on strengthening and rehabilitation of my leg muscles. The Government of Alberta only offers 7 sessions, no matter how brutal the accident. Therefore I did seven sessions at the University Sports Medicine Center and then had to do the work on my own, even though the therapist recommended more sessions. At the time I was a student, who had to drop out of school due to the accident. So I lost my healthcare for a good portion of the year. When you're a student, there are also stipulations on your healthcare, which require you to have a note from your family doctor before receiving physiotherapy, a Universities way of making a lot of their private insurance inaccessible. I completed my undergraduate degree without getting much more physio, but continuing to do exercises to try and strengthen my leg. A few years later in 2016 I started a graduate program, and decided near the end of it in 2018 the screws still in my leg had to come out. So off I went for another surgery. When I met with the surgeon after the surgery she did not recommend any physiotherapy, but I knew it would be required. So I went to my family doctor to try and get a note to gain access to my University benefits. The doctor was stand offish, which was pretty annoying to me. After sending me to a sports medicine doctor they recommend a different treatment, which never really helped. Luckily around this time my wife landed a really excellent job with benefits and so I began to seek out a therapist. My wife was having tight left knee issues at the time and went to Calgary Core physio to get it looked at. She highly recommend them to me in 2019. So I decided, to go for it and began physiotherapy with Carolyn Carrie. The therapy started with an assessment where Carolyn looked at my walking pattern and made judgments of the path forward with therapy and exercises. The first thing I noticed was that a lot more exercises were given compared to the first sports medicine clinic. While I knew I would have to do a lot of work on my own, the dry needling sessions and other therapy really helped to bring leg along and reactivate muscles that had long been dormant. It has taken over a year to get my left leg back to some semblance of normal. I'm now back after a half a year or more hiatus from Calgary Core, because I'm finding as my leg gets stronger from exercise, there is now detail work to be done. Currently we are working on my left calf and ankle. Today was an especially brutal session. But I know after sessions like this, with the exercise as support that things get better. I can't say enough good about Carolyn and Calgary Core physio. They listen and they work through your physical ailments with you. They really work to give one access to a variety of exercises that lead to Improvement in strength and mobility. As someone who has been athletic all my life and also does a physical job, Carolyn's diligence has really helped me stay on top of my muscular and skeletal health.

Nicole is my physio and has worked with getting me so much better over the past year. Nicole is knowledgeable, professional and caring. You will not get a better physio. I had hip (flexor-glute) and shoulder (rotator cuffs) problems with both being fully resolved. She followed up with her prescribed home treatments, modified and adapted the program as needed, and assessed and used varied treatment modalities with each visit.
