Let's resolve your jaw pain issues

Your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is susceptible to various disorders and conditions because of it’s complexity and constant use. If you’re suffering from pain in your jaw or neck, jaw dysfunction, and frequent headaches, your TMJ may be the cause.

With their many years of experience, the physiotherapists at Calgary Core Physiotherapy have helped many TMJ pain patients resolve their recurrent or chronic jaw and neck problems.  The Calgary Core Physio TMJ Treatment Program is specially tailored to each patient, and has proven to be effective for so many Calgary TMJ pain sufferers.

What does our TMJ Treatment Program include?

  • Assessment

A thorough assessment of your TMJ by an experienced physiotherapist that focuses on achieving a diagnosis of your problem and help you gain a full understanding of your jaw and neck pain, including a Range of Motion assessment, and conducting a thorough Medical History Review.

  • Ongoing Evaluation

Further evaluation into the way your jaw and neck move with a range of motion examination, listening for clicking or popping sounds during jaw movements, assessing the muscles in your face, neck, and shoulders for tension or pain, evaluating your ability to perform activities like chewing, talking, and yawning, and figuring out the “core” issues of your TMJ.

  • Imaging (if needed)

Appropriate referral for diagnostic imaging, such as an x-ray or MRI, if required to get a detailed view of the joint structure.

  • An action plan

Based on years of clinical experience and the most current research, a methodical plan of action to help you start living without jaw and neck pain

  • A treatment schedule

Prompt and effective treatment by team members at the clinic with the focus of getting you better, faster

  • Physician/Health Care Consult (if needed)

Working closely with your family physician and other health care providers and, if necessary, “quarterbacking” your TMJ pain treatment plan

What are typical conditions that this program can help with?

The five most common conditions that the Calgary Core Physio TMJ Treatment Program addresses are:

A general term for acute or chronic inflammation of the TMJ, caused by trauma (such as a fall, strike to the jaw, motor vehicle accident), adaptation to recent dental work or bite changes, or repetitive stress.

Including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, which can affect the TMJ.

Pain and dysfunction in the muscles around the jaw.

Teeth grinding or clenching that can put pressure on the TMJ.
