What is your treatment philosophy?
Matt believes in a well-rounded treatment approach to his plan of care. A precise diagnosis of both the pain generator and the “driver” of the pain helps him choose the best path of care for each individual. He uses a combination of soft tissue techniques, dry needling, manual therapy, and exercise to help patients return to full function.

What are your areas of interest outside of work?
Matt is a sports fanatic with a background in playing and coaching basketball, including at the college level. He follows his cousin’s coaching journey with the Utah Jazz in the NBA and his brother’s involvement with the University of New Brunswick’s basketball team. He also enjoys exploring everything Alberta has to offer.

Matt attained his FCAMPT designation, an internationally recognized post-graduate diploma designed to provide physiotherapists with advanced manual therapy techniques and advanced clinical reasoning. As a result, he has a special interest in neck and low back injuries. Additionally, he has extensive experience working with athletes including post surgical and return to sport injuries. He has furthered his expertise with courses such as Edna King’s “The Big Three”, focusing on the rehabilitation of quadricep, calf, and hamstring injuries.

How do you take care of your body/prevent injuries?
Luckily for Matt, there are a few fellow “Islanders” working as physiotherapists in Calgary that help him out whenever in a jam. He will often trade a few needles of his own, for a few from them. Aside from such, Matt is realizing that a proper warm up before a workout is crucial to help him prevent injury.
